Re: Halogen oven hit & miss results

Hi Guys,

Thought I would give the halogen oven a go, started off with just one mug @ 180c for 10 mins and it came it out great!! then done x2 mugs 180c for 12 mins, both came out very good.
Had another bash yesterday ( a week later) same temp 180c for 12 mins both mugs came out crap very brown, so im guessing burnt and over cooked :(

Very confused  same ink, same paper, same green silicone wraps, also have a stand alone thermometer in the oven so the same temps, done the same thing as the first time waited until temp reached 180c pre-warmed the mugs popped them in the middle of the oven, when timer went off, I took them out and removed the wraps & paper straight away.

Will give it another bash, but is it really this hit & miss using an oven? does a mug press give better results?

Thanks, Mark

Tagging Webtrekker for you as he is the go to guy for halogen ovens.

P.S. Webtrekker, can you recommend a make and approx times/temps as I am half tempted to get one myself.

Hmm... I don't pre-warm mugs when using the oven. Just preheat the oven itself to 180 C (using the thermometer) and bung the mug(s) in. I remove wraps straight away after cooking. I used to dunk them in warm water but there's really no need.

I get consistent results, so I really don't know why yours should be any different. I leave the temperature knob set to the same position all the time, I never alter it. I stand the mugs right-way up. Timing is done with my phone, not the oven timer. I also use the chrome extender ring on the oven to help air circulation.

@SG - I bought my oven from The Transfer Press, but I see they've been out of stock ever since!

Webtrekker, thanks for the reply!

I do 100% the same as you, when I say pre-warm the mugs I mean take them out the boxes and let them sitting in the room for a few hours.

Just done another test for the wife, and not very good results once again, colour was supposed to be a hot pink and came out red, the 'this girl' text has a ghost double image above it and the black camping looks very faded.

Need more heat or time or both ? 180c at 10 mins.

I'd say try less time (8 or 9 minutes).

I doubt whether pressing times or temps will improve your colours though. Are you using the recommended ICC profile when printing?

Oh Ok would less time, take away the fading of the black? Yes im using a recommended ICC for my inks, supplied by Ink Experts.

Maybe its the mugs then giving hit & miss results.
