Inks, ICC Profiles and so on are or can be a minefield, for sublimation I recently bought a Ricoh SG 3110DN A4 printer and started using Sawgrass Inks, I did have some initial set up issues but an email to Sawgrass sorted it out very quickly and am now printing high quality Fine Art images successfully.

I recently sold my 44inch HP printer which used pigment inks for fine art reproduction and have replaced it with a A2 Canon printer. Both of these printers use 130ml cartridges and are 12 colour. The recommended inks for these are fantastic as they have an archival live of between 200 - 250 Years. They are expensive and if I shop around I can get a set of 12 inks for around 600 quid {ouch) however I have not found anything to beat them on the quality of the finished product and feel the same with using Sawgrass Inks for sublimation.

If it's quality you need then stay away from the bargain bucket inks as you will inevitably have less headaches and be supplying a superior product to your customers.

This may also be of help which is the Sawgrass guide to setting up Photoshop, Before one does this you need to visit the Sawgrass site and download the profile for your printer model for either Mac or Windows then follow the instructions.

The PSF file I have from them to set up Photoshop is to large to attach on the forum uploads but you can PM me and I'll email it over to you.

The frustrating thing about the Ricoh is that if it starts banding, perform a nozzle check, then clean the nozzles if needed but then after leave the printer a few hours, and it miraculously sorts itself out.

I'm still waiting for my Epson cartridges to arrive, and I'm going to give these a go and get a profile made up. If that fails, I might have to resign myself to spending an arm and a leg on the Sawgrass inks (or give up completely).

NEVER GIVE UP OR THE MACHINES WIN.....

hopefully the email i've just sent will sort out some issues, thank goodness for the DSF forum.

theres a known issue ive had one replaced recently for exactly that banding issue. COntact RICOH their service is excellent.

Might it be worth getting the mug printed by someone else here on a rich printer with your logo then you can see what it looks like? I live in Northwich if it is anywhere near you, message me

I played around with some settings and pressed it to see how it came out. Image

Although the paper appeared poor coloured and wrong it actually transferred off ok!

Doesn't look bad to me. I do know that quality paper really help. I did this year's ago with Epson printers and they always clogged up, with the rich I did about 120 mugs plus phones cases etc and that was great but after a year exactly, I got an error but changed all the cartridges and it has just printed 105 mug papers similar to your logo for a customer, unfortunately I only had 38 mugs left so am aiming for more to come.

On the paper front, I restarted using some old rotech jewel paper which was great as nearly all the ink went onto the mug. When this ran out I tried some cheap paper which was not good and seemed to absorb most of the ink, so now use trupix paper which is much better.

For what its worth, the colours of the ink on the transfer paper always appear different to the final colours once transferred to the mug!

Just another one of the joys of sublimation to help make it easy for us.
