Hi I have been doing mugs with graphics and they have come out fine, but when doing photos they have been grainy and faded, just awful quality. I have a Ricoh Aficio SG 3110DNw printer with subijet ink (sawgrass) and a 5 in 1 swing away heat press, and sublimation paper (tried printing on both sides) doing it at 170temp and between 150timing-170timing.
Don't know what else to try!
Please help
Thankyou

Are you using the Powerdriver (presuming you're on a PC) ?

Are you scanning the photos? maybe the DPI is to low and not getting as much ink on the paper as you would by making a design on screen?
Probably way off but just a thought :)

Hi, if you can produce mugs with decent graphics and your not doing anything different then I'd say the problems with the artwork. You can only get out as an image as the one you use. I obviouly could be wrong

That is the same problem I am having. When printing mugs with graphics the finished mugs are great but when using photos the images come out faded at the bottom of the mug. I can't work out what is causing it either. The photos I am using are good quality images.

My photos look fine on the paper but don't seem to press properly. Is that the same for you? If I put a photo in the middle of the mug with graphics around it it works fine but not when pressing only photos.

Print a block of colour over the same area as a photograph, red is good as it shows variations. There are 3 possible causes...
1/ Printer....unlikely from your description
2/ Uneven mug, either not straight or uneven coating coverage
3/ Uneven heating.

I have attached a photo of good mugs that I have. I have a new box of mugs so I will try them at the weekend to see if the mugs are the issue.
