Re: Epson XP-315 ink refill

Hi guys!

I'm very new to mug sublimation, and have been doing it for a week with good results. I've learnt a lot in that time, but today I have a problem that I cannot get my head around and it's come at a really bad time because I've got a big order on.

The dreaded Epson printer... Why did I bother?

When it works, it doesn't print bad results, my mugs have been coming out sharp and professionally, but the ink has now ran out in some of my refillable ink cartridges.

I have refilled them in the exact same way that I originally filled them, yet my printer still thinks they are empty.

I've spent hours trying to find a solution that works. Tried unplugging the printer for 5-10 mins and trying again. Tried unplugging whilst installing the cartridges. I've tried using a syringe to remove the ink and put it back in again. Nothing has worked, however during one of my tinkering I managed to accidentally get the printer to give an error message for the Cyan cartridge (cartridge not recognised), not sure how this happened, yet when I pulled the Cyan cartridge out and put it back in, the printer now accepts that the Cyan is full, yet my Black, Magenta and Yellow still have warning icons next to them.

I desperately need some help with this.

I have ordered a CISS unit which won't arrive until the end of next week, yet I need to start printing again today.

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Are your carts auto reset in which case you need to take them out then put them back in again. If not then you need a chip re-setter to make the printer think that they are new full carts. Epson printer’s with the latest driver software installed are programmed to lock when they detect a mixture of both genuine Epson and compatible ink cartridges installed.

Hi, thank you for the reply.

As far as I was told, the cartridges were supposed to automatically reset.

The yellow cartridge is permanently getting the 'ink cartridges not recognised' error now.

Honestly, this couldn't come at a worse time :(

I've never used genuine epson ink cartridges, just the refillable ones that were supplied with the printer.

Slight update on the matter because I've still not fixed it.

I discovered that the chips on the front of my refillable cartridges were detachable. So I swapped the black and yellow and both cartridges were rejected. I switched them back and just the yellow was rejected...
So then I swapped the yellow chip with the magenta chip, and the yellow chip was rejected, but the magenta was accepted.

This has confused me so badly.

I'm starting to think the printer is faulty.

On the chips if you have 2 round connections at the top short them out with a paper clip or something metal this will reset the chip it may need to be done more than once, mine very often dose this at about half way down and I just reset and it usually works.

Hi,

thanks for the response.

no, my chips have 4 at the top and 5 at the bottom.

I've tried my cartridges in another printer and the same problem is happening there, so it must be to do with the chips. Is there a way to reset these without a chip resetter?

Thanks again for all the help.

Okay, not a problem. Do you think a chip resetter would stop the 'cartridges not recognised' error?

i had few "self reset" cartridges before and i must say none of them ever rester them self :)
but... All i was was doing was, refill them once the cartridge carriage is in the change position. Then take them out and put them back. Printer seen them as new carts. but when i did that when printer was off, printer couldn't recognise them after restart. so try to do it all while printer is still on. It may help.
