Can't help tossing my hat into the ring on this one. We missed a deadline last week due to the dastardly Ricoh 28212-of-death. Supplier = excellent response/service and whizzed a set of inks up to us overnight. Nobody died or lost a limb, but it wasn't ideal. Next thing you know, we have a run of 200 units scheduled for tomorrow, have guaranteed dispatch to the client pm; half way through the prints tonight and again the arbitrary 28212 failure. We are going to miss another deadline and let yet another client down. Utterly despondent. As you all know only too well, the margins in this game are so slim it only takes a couple of curve balls to undo you, mechanical or temporal. We were going to invest in another Ricoh to keep on hand as backup after last week, however I'm not so sure now. Is the A3 more stable than the A4, or should we consider another system entirely? Are there any systems that are properly cross-platform? Can't even update the Ricoh firmware as we are all-mac here. Whattodowhattodoo...

not that i know much about the 28212 error, but regarding your last sentence where you mention not being able to update the Ricoh firmware on a mac, this is how i got around it!Postcard;69859 wrote:Can't help tossing my hat into the ring on this one. i installed the free 14 day demo of Parallels Desktop for Mac, and then installed an old copy I had of Windows XP within this. It wasn't ideal, but meant I could upgrade the Ricoh firmware with no hassle, and didn't have to start playing around with Bootcamp etc. I'd say within an hour of starting the process, I had my firmware updated to the latest one.

Thanks SR. We have a new printer on the way. Hopefully it will ship with latest firmware. And hopefully you can remain unacquainted with 28212!spongerobinson;69871 wrote:not that i know much about the 28212 error, but regarding your last sentence where you mention not being able to update the Ricoh firmware on a mac, this is how i got around it!

Not necessarily. You ought to update anyway as the firmware versions get updated from Ricoh and Ricoh printers are manufactured prior to updates.Postcard;69872 wrote:Thanks SR. Just had this error come up on my Ricoh. Ive had the printer for about 16 months now. My supplier was Lovecut who have referred me back to Ricoh and I've sent an email to them to ask their advice.
I have found a youtube video that talks you through how to fix this issue which looks straight forward. My only question is that on the video comments, and also on here, it mentions not doing it with almost empty cartridges - and I am just wondering why? 2 of my cartridges are almost empty and I do have a set ready to put in but im just wondering why I shouldn't do it with almost empty ones?

Hi Judebill, I totally get where you're coming from. The reset draws a lot of ink down though! Your printer is well out of warranty however, so who could blame you for trying? I think personally I'd buy a new printer and install the carts you already have, you'd have a second set and another 12 months Sawgrass warranty. Obviously spending out the cash isn't ideal, but it may be the best of a bad lot!

I have been thinking for a while that I need to get an A3 printer anyway but at the moment my bank balance wont allow me!! looking about the internet, someone people get this problem a lot? If I follow the youtube video (which is going through the menus and tricking the printer into thinking you have done something when you haven't), and sacrifice some ink....Do you think this will happen again? I guess you hear of this problem a lot at BMS?Scotty@BMS;89637 wrote:Hi Judebill, I totally get where you're coming from. The reset draws a lot of ink down though!
