Here's my 'Doink Hammer' on Cooling Slate:

Image

That would make a nice image for canvas it's self :)

If the Clowns I engaged to do some custom coding ever get their acts together and supply me with the tools I need to open my website I need to have something on there of some value - the Mugs etc will be there to attract traffic, and give the site some colour.

I will either go down the Tile route or Canvas probably, Tile Sets are attractive at the moment.. I just need to specialise in something. Yes, the canvas I bought already mounted was for painting I think - it was just a test.

What you say about every man and his dog with a wide format printer, I'm not too worried about that as you need to be able to use them properly and I am sure lots of people dont bother to learn their machines properly.
What I like about the Tile Sets is that they must be unique - they must be, your not going to get two identical sets even using the same tiles as someone else using the same image.. Prices for those wont plummet - I haven't gone searching but I shouldnt think too many are doing these.

I would love to see a video on Canvas corners - maybe it could go in our Tut Vids section ?

Thanks Dave, for the explanation of the Doink.

If you do get a suitable A3 printer, it is worth considering the A3 sublimation print direct onto the 600mm x 450mm pre-stretched cotton canvas as an addition to your other canvases. As you can see from the pictures, the colours are exactly the same as sublimating onto 100% polyester and that white space makes it look great. The pre-stretched canvases are cheap and you don't have to spend time messing with bars and hammers. The result is also water resistant. You could buy a higher quality canvas too. I just enjoy being able to sell for $35 something that cost me less than $10 to produce, and took around 5 minutes.

Also your corners aren't very neat (you can see a bulge) - this is the trickiest bit to get the hang of and takes some practice.
Definitely get yourself a decent staple gun, it'll make the job a lot easier than drawing pins!
Yes, I was thinking the same about the colours and in fact, was about to ask about washed out colours for something I'm doing.....

I was just thinking about Printing onto canvas, rather than the Sublimation element complicating things !

Had a quick look and found THIS so its possible - I assume by looking at this that these are just suitable (for Inkjet) pre-cut sized canvas that will run through a printer just like paper !

I am sorely tempted to cut an A4 piece of canvas to see if my Ricoh will take and print onto canvas - to see if it will just jam or actually work ! I'm sure the 'Standard' ink for my 'Standard' Ricoh is not suitable but if the printer will take the canvas it will print something ?

I was thinking that as I only have small printers I could make up a bigger picture from a number of smaller canvasses !

Has anyone here tried running canvas through a Ricoh 3110dn?

Am I about to try something silly ?

That's a pity Nik. I use one of my Epson A3 printers to make these on A3 canvas sheets. I started by cutting a piece out of a cheap 'dollar shop' stretched canvas. But I had a similar result to what you got from the Ricoh about 3 times out of 5.

Then I found pads of A3 and A4 canvas sheets. Works out about $8 for 10 pages of canvas.

I tried all ways to frame the things cheaply, then found some poster strips like we had in the 70's. Only trouble is they curl a bit at the sides when the humidity is over 90%, but they flatten again when it is normal.

As you know, most of my sublimation and other stuff is done with photos I have taken from my boat, like this sunrise. It is a little piece from the centre of a photo, blown up just for the colours.

I had one sublimated on poly treated canvas, but someone wanted it for an office because it was really bright.

You might find the canvas pages from 'pads' or packaged feed through the Ricoh, as they do in the Epson. It was just because they were so thin, the ones I cut our screwed up a bit.

Cheers

Printing inkjet onto canvas was what I was doing before I got caught in all this sublimation stuff.

It is quick, easy and costs about $2 to make an A3 print, plus $1.50 for the plastic strips and they sell for $20 each.

Nik,

According to the Ricoh website, the SG3110dn can accept the following paper thicknesses:

The link you posted is for 270gsm canvas, so I wonder is it too thick for the printer to print onto?

Might be worth trying thinner canvas sheets?

Oops. I wrote Epson when I meant Brother Printers. (Fixed it)

Nik, The Brother should only take fairly light paper, but for feeding 270GSM canvas you do two things.
Never feed from the paper tray, use the manual feed slot.
Tell the printer you are printing on card or envelope.

Since I learned that I've had no problems with the Brother printing on canvas for years, other than ink problems. The Brother uses dye inks and the Epsons use pigment inks. I run Epson pigment inks in the Brothers because I found the Brother ink wasn;t good with JetPro paper.

If the Ricoh has a straight through manual feed, you should be fine. (Maybe)

Cheers,

RossD
