Well instead of taking the lid of the cartridge holder, which in all honesty, you can't do unless you break it. Looking at the machine, with the cartridge holder in the small bay, lift the lid of the cartridge holder and on the left hand side of the lid the plastic comes down a long way. With a sharp knife, cut the THIN plastic back to the thicker plastic. Then on the actual cartridge holder, you need to cut about a eight of an inch of the thick plastic away. I uses a stanley knife and a small smoothing file to smooth it all of. Then the tubes are not trapped or pinched, and you can use the printer with the cartridge lid still in place, simplies.

i've got two 1500w and managed to remove the cover without snapping or breaking parts. You just have to be gentle.

There is a youtube clip showing you how to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01GjWhi2qaM (In America they call them 1430w)

Glad i managed as it saved me having to explain things to the engineer when i had to use the Warranty.

I Like your solution though James.

Yes, and looking at the youtube clip, he even says that they break easily! But at least I can keep my lid on and should I need repairs under warranty, well, all I have to do now is change the cartridges! No faffing about having to put the lid on again etc. Rub some blak ink over the customisation, and no-one is the wiser!

I will try and get the pictures tomorrow now, only just got back in and there is a pile of work waiting for me, and my 1500!

Oh don't do that, It was very helpful and when I was searching for a youtube vid to see how it was done, I missed that one, otherwise I would not have tried my method!

As you said, you have to be gentle, I am a bit ham fisted, and although I am not too sure, but I think that the 1500w is different than the American model, I say this because whilst I was looking at the end that he in the end pushed off, I could not see that it could push off like that, I tried alsorts, but not liquorice, to budge that end and couldn't!

You Should have tried the liquorice as it does slid out but your right it can be tricky, Thin flat head is needed to be able to push the bottom of the clip. If you push the top only then it just bends then snaps. Slowly but surely as they say.

look forward to the photos as i may adopt your idea, it'll save me losing the lid and clip and keep dust out

So that is where I was going wrong. I don't have a thin flat head, a rather large or should I say big head, which goes with my BA.

Ho hom. Yes will get those pictures done later today. Got to go to Crime Stoppers shortly and pick up an order from them.
