Re: Iphone case, issue with pressing the inserts

Post by roguechloe »

Hi everyone,

could really use some help please. A few weeks ago the metal inserts for my iphone cases started pressing wrong, it was a man united design so red with other detailing on it, when i lifted it off the paper after pressing the red looked like a dirty orange, the blacks and golds didnt look right either but not as bad as the red. At first i thought maybe it was the temp or time but tried variations of both and all came out the same, so i borrowed a thermal image camera to check the heat press was properly getting to temp and it was, i then thought there might be an issue with my sublimation printer but the printout looks perfectly fine, then i thought it might be the paper so i tried printing a couple of mugs and theu came out exactly as they should, so im at my wits end, but it means i cant print phone cases tablets or anything else that requires sublimation printing with a heat press. does anybody know what it could be thats going wrong?? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thankyou

Hi Rouge
I am a newbie here so I don't want to tell you how to suck eggs but I made the mistake of not removing the protective film from the metal inserts. It is a thin clear film that unless you know it is there you cant see it. Some suppliers have a blue film so it is obvious. Also does the image left on the paper have a shine to it, if so then it is defiantly your problem.
I have a post on here already with some photos

Hope you resolve your problem.
Many thanks
Iain

Equipment used A4 Ricoh printer, HP3085 Heat Press Graphtec cutter, Jarin mug press, CJV 30-60 solvent printer and lots of help from DSF.

I have found different metals print up differently. Some of the aluminium pieces are not as colourful when printed compared to other metals.

It doesnt have the badge on it, just bright red background with a name in gold writing and a black lion, with font like man united, ricoh sg3110dn, ive tried 190 for 60 seconds which is what i always use, i tried 200 for 120 seconds, same result. Sharp image, and there are no lines on the printout. And im printing on the same metal as i always do, and from the same supplier. They were printing perfectly and then one day they started coming out all wrong, i havent changed aything, i will post a pic if that helps

190 for 50 seconds is mine.

With you on the frustration side. Is it a new batch?

How about trying less temp? 170c. I thought ricoh needs less heat? Another bad news is that reds in ricoh printers are very dificult to correct. Even with custom icc.
btw.there is a badge :)

No new batches, everything has been exactly the same, before i started printing i had to do a head flush and clean on the printer as i had some lines appear, but i dont understand why this would have affected the pressing of it.

yea paul ive tried lower temp aswell, and yes :), there was a badge on the original design but i had the same thought as you so i changed it and the new design wont be having a badge on it
