Brett was kind enough to send me some Canvas to play with - thanks Brett.

I just got the chance to do a test, of our beloved little man who is no longer with us - I want to make a small gift to the Missus for Christmas so trying to do this without being seen..lol.

The thing is, I don't really know what to expect - this was done at 190c for 40 secs using xPress XP4072A Sub paper.

There isn't much work involved - I must get a stapler though as I used drawing pins for this..

I have no idea what to charge - I usually go on what I would pay so I think a 200mm x 200mm like this would be £10. The work comes in sourcing the materials I would think - I do need to play with times and temps it seems.

I wanted to try canvas just for this gift, I will be probably wanting to offer these but as I only have an A4 printer it wont be a serious concern for me at the moment - the great thing is Brett did send me a fair bit of Canvas so I can probably perfect this with what I have.. I am so happy that I have something to use my press on :)

When or IF my current build project works I will have something else to experiment with, I may even be able to save the rest of you some money of I can make what I intend to the quality I expect :)

Love the way it turned out.

Did you see the sub on canvas I posted in the reply to your earlier thread about canvas and sub?
Page here

Pic here

It might give you another option to consider.
For the A3 pic that canvas on the frame in inches is about 24"x18" 600mm x 450mm

For A4 I just print on a framed canvas about 16" x 12" 400mm x 300mm

The bigger one fits neatly over my big press, but the smaller ones just sat on a frame I made to raise them. Just a few layers of cotton and a teflon sheet to sit the canvas on.

Using the stretched canvas on frames means there is the white border that sort of makes up for the smallish image size, and also frames the whole thing. And of course, the canvas stays properly 'stretched'. I do a quick spray of the same acrylic over the finished canvas, as I use initially, and people often think it is an actual painting because of the way it reflects the light.

Anyway, just another idea you might like to try. I just delivered another one a few nights ago and they loved it. Cost of materials $8 for the canvas on the frame, $0.45 for the paper, $0.25 for ink. Sale price $35.00

To have 8" x 12" printed on canvas and stretched by a popular chain store is between $30 (on special) and $45 (normal price).

Another thing you might like to play with if you are limited to A4 size for a while. This is 3 separate A4 portrait prints of one of my sunrises. I split one photo into 3 parts, then printed each of them, thinking the customer would put them in a line on the wall. But what they did was staqger them on a wall in a small consulting room - and they look great.

Once you start printing on canvas there's a whole other world out there. I started printing on canvas using pigment ink, then after I started doing sublimation I tried sub on canvas because I was sick of all the nozzle clogs with pigment ink if I go away for a week or two. Now I only print on canvas with Dye Sub. If I can get 100% polyester canvas/dacron I use it, but lately I've just been buying the pre made frames because they are cheap, bright, and there is no 'work' to do other than spray - press - spray.

With the Brother A3 printer for Sublimation I know I can be overseas for a month and a half and the thing just works when I get back. Just a single nozzle check and clean. I think Ricoh is supposed to be just as good.

cause the other option is sub out larger canvases to some one else and put your mark up on top we sell an awful lot of canvases this way you can cut costs even more by just having the canvas printed and frame and stretch them yourself . we can print a metre wide if anyones interested

Your colour looks a little washed out, assuming that your sublimating these onto polyester canvas?
Also your corners aren't very neat (you can see a bulge) - this is the trickiest bit to get the hang of and takes some practice.
Definitely get yourself a decent staple gun, it'll make the job a lot easier than drawing pins!

I was thinking the same but didn't like to comment but seeing as you have done I'll second it.
Try this vid for corner folding instructions.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZoIT3GJmJI
If you're not using canvas you should be able to manhandle the print to get good tension otherwise of stretcher pliers are invaluable for getting the material 'drum tight' which is what you need to be looking for in a good quality mounted image.....oh and a good staple gun as well.
