I didnt really want to get a wide format printer either as I do not have much room. Stook with A4 as I only print upto A4 anyway so didn't think it was worth it.

Does anyone know much about the E3300N Ricoh
Good reliable printer for dye sub work. If you are thinking of purchasing I recommend you do so from a dye sub reseller so you get the correct profiles etc for it. If you are thinking of secondhand I am not so sure. I do not know too much about secondhand printers but you will have to flush the old ink out of it before making it ready for dye sub which may waste a fair bit of ink.

Ok, so richo are a LOT more reliable than an epson. I get that they must be due to the cost however with most products being made in china even if it is a big company. I would have expected that epson would be pretty reliable. My last epson lasted me quite a while

More reliable...the heads don't dry out seemingly as often as Epson and one purchased from a 'legit' sub supplier using Sawgrass inks will come with a warranty. Ricoh printers should be left switched on and will go into 'sleep' mode which means no, or at least a very greatly reduced possibility of heads drying out.

As far as I am aware there are no Epson printers below wide format size that have 'legitimate' dyesub support hence as there has probably been little or no research into this range of printers reliability is always going to be in question.

Sawgrass support the Epson WP-4015dn printer, which is only A4.

Its not that Epson are not reliable as such. Its more the fact that dyesub ink is of a different makeup to what Epson ink would be, therefore it can cause problems with heads getting blocked etc. This is potentially a problem with any printer when using inks that aren't recommended by the original printer manufacturer. Similar can happen with cheap regular ink re-fill carts.

Sawgrass have been using Epson printers for a long time, the Ricoh printers are relatively new for them to use, and as such there has been plenty more research, and real world use of Epson of all sizes than compared to Ricohs. Sawgrass tend to only offer solutions based on a select few printers at a time, and currently for Epson A4 this is the 4015, they have a couple of Epsons at A3 size (which is still small format.)
Dealers tend to be pushing the Ricoh printers a lot more heavily than the Epsons, and this may be either because they are more reliable, or that they make more profit on the Ricoh printers and their inks (there is a lot less options for alternative inks on the Ricohs, so it's a more closed/captive market), or it could be both.
Whether you choose Ricoh, Epson or another manufacturer's printer, small format or large format, then you are not using the printer in the way it was designed, and problems are possible. The ink formulation of sublimation inks is not the same as the dye or pigment inks that the printers are built for. (This is , except for Epson's SureColor SC-F Series of sublimation printers, which, if you believe Epson's marketing, are built/designed from the ground up for sublimation work, and use Epson's own sublimation inks)

Back to the original topic....
Asub, are you using refil carts, or a CISS?
How are you sure that the problem is that your nozzels are clogged, and that there isn't a problem with the ink flow/delivery from your carts or CISS?
Have you tried using standard Epson carts instead, to rule out a flow problem?

Hi,
On this one I just refill the carts and do not use ciss any more. I have no original carts for the printer so cannot even try that. I was trying to see if I could switch them like putting one of the different colour subli ones into the black which is where the problem is but it didn't seem to like it.

Any other ideas?

What do you think the chances are that if I get the cleaning cartridge for the black that it will start working? I did not what to order one and it doesnt work and I have to get a new printer anyway.
