I wouldn't bother with custom profiles on eBay. Just sell the profile for that printer on CD by post. So that they'll get it next day etc.

Even when I used to do personalised mugs on ebay, people would message me asking,
" how do I tell you what name has to go on the mug?

can not sell it on cd as profile does not exist before buyer send me some printed charts to scan and create profile

i get asked that at least once a day .........clearly they are a lot of these idiots
i put a picture and info uploader in my listings to help save me time and make it easier for the customer what do i get? messages saying hi ive filled your form out but just incase heres the info again aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yeah but forget about all that.

I was happy with an Artainium profile for a C88 printer back in the day. Just sell that profile x100 times on ebay and direct your ebay customers to your premium service offered on your website. ebayers won't wait longer than 3 days for an item before they hit your DSRs out of spite and ignorance.

It's not only about the printer model though, as it does depend on what inks are being used, and the combination of them with the printer. Remember the ICC profile isn't telling the computer what printer is being used, but how to mix the inks in the printer to get the correct colours.

There was a guy on Ebay selling a sublimation profile for the S22 a few months back - he had got one made for his printer, and was selling it on as the definitive ICC for the S22. I sent him a message about it, and he didn't even know what sublimation inks he was using - they were just what he'd bought with the printer from another Ebay seller. His sale didn't last very long.

Obviously you would sell an ICC profile for the printer and ink combination. Given the very limited choices of printers and ink, you would have all of the ICC profiles to sell.

It's a very good match, yes a customised profile will be more precise, but is it really necessary? I'm a fussy b*** d and I was was happy with the profiles Artainium were providing to customers...pop into Photoshop, set up the printer software and you have a very good quality print.

It just makes more business sense to sell the 'generic' profiles.

The sales for custom ICC profiles are more aimed at people who are using an ink from a manufacturer who doesn't supply an appropriate ICC for the printer they are using. Or for whatever reason aren't getting good enough results from the generic profiles provided by the manufacturer.

At the lower end of the Epson printer market there is a allowed variance of printing quality, whereas with the more pro level printers (Stylus Pro) they are all individually calibrated by hand before leaving the factory. Unfortunately, most dye subbers are using the lower end domestic Epsons which aren't calibrated in this way, and so using a generic ICC may not give the needed results for professional results.

Custom ICCs are also good for non-sublimation use, if not using the Epson inks, and/or for using non-standard papers.

We have the kit in house for producing our own ICCs, so have done this for both our sublimation printer, and pigment printers for the different art papers we use.
