Re: Image too complex to press?

Post by Fordy »

Hi again,

I have gone out and bought some better quality mugs, better paper and a brand new printer. I went and bought the Richo SG3110DN which so far seems brilliant. I just have one more question, which is what printer settings should I be using? Firstly what should the print quality be from a choice of: speed priority, quality priority or high quality. Then what paper type should I use from a choice of: plain, glossy and inkjet plain paper?

Thanks

Wow, in a week you've gone from an S22 to a Ricoh!
Did you get to the point of having the S22 working with Paul's ICC profile - I would have thought this should have given you good enough results, if the ink you were using was OK.
If you do have both working now, I would love to see side by side shots of mugs printed with the same artwork from both systems.

I am no expert on the Ricoh systems, but I thought that the PowerDriver handled all the settings so you didn't have to faff about selecting things like print quality and paper type. I am happy to be corrected, as we only use Epson's here.

Am I correct in assuming that you have bought a Ricoh with sublimation inks from a sublimation supplier, or have you bought a normal Ricoh with some refillable cartridges and put your own inks in?

If you bought this Ricoh I hope you bought it from a supplier for subli products. They should have sold it with the Subli Gel inks for Ricoh ( you need them) and should be able to supply you with the proper paper for the Ricoh printer. The icc profil for the subli gel ink would have come with it along with all the installing and setup procedures and disks.

Luckily if he did not buy it from a sublimation supplier the powerdriver and/or profiles are available via sawgrass. I bought a secondhand Ricoh 7000 and was able to get the latest firmware from Ricoh and the latest powerdriver software without issue. I think they just require you to register with your printer's serial number.

I dont think it was an issue with the ICC profile with the epson as the problem was not to do with colour. The problem was that I was getting a bleeding effect on the prints which I think was down to the poor quality inks I was using. The CISS had also been giving me headaches so I just decided to upgrade to the Ricoh to stop me pulling any more hair out and now I'm using the Epson as a standard printer. I thought I had already installed the PowerDriver but I'll have to have another look as when printing it still gives me the options to change paper type etc.

I bought the Ricoh from BMS and they supply it with the proper sublimation inks. It could be worth looking into the refillable cartridges later as the inks are rather expensive, but for now I'll stick with what I've got.

I was just checking you'd bought the proper inks, as as far as I know there aren't supplies of alternative inks for the Ricoh readily available in the UK. This is assuming that the "gel-ink" claims are more than just marketing, and that standard sublimation inks for Epsons won't work in a Ricoh.

By the way, don't bother with refillable carts. its not worth it.

Yes ink is expensive but when you break it down per print it is not that much.

when you go to print you must select PowerDriver as the printer not the Ricoh Sg3110. All is explained in the support documents on the Sawgrass website on the link provided.
