First Timer Needs Help.

Hi guys
Im all new to this sublimation stuff and have hit a problem already (suprise suprise).
When I print using sub ink my prints are all washed out and grainy, Is this normal for sub ink?
my normal epsom ink prints fine but the sub ink dosent any ideas ??

Please search for dull image via forum search. Also i presume you dont use suported printer, ink and icc profile?? And also have yo pressed anything yet??

First thoughts are you are either printing onto wrong paper or wrong side. What brand are you using as the carrier paper?

If you are talking about the image on the paper prior to transferring to an item then it will look very flat and dull (and even sometimes the colours will look odd) - but if you have the correct ICC profile etc then once transferred the image should be fine!

Can you please tell us what printer & inks you are using as this will help us. Do you mean the print when it has just come out of the printer or do you mean when you have pressed an item as this will help too.

ok I'm using a epson sx215 printer and to be honest I got the paper from ebay and it has no brand label on it, i have goten ink from ebay (seller says that they are left over from their work and worked fine for them ) I also bought ink from china.
The print on paper is faded and grainy (the black is more like smoky grey) and when sublimated onto a mug it looks worn out and faded

lick your finger and see what side is sticky... you should print on one that is sticky

Aaron, first of all your printer isn't supported for doing sublimation but, there is a way around this as you will need a custom ICC Profile to get the colours correct. Paul should be able to help you out with this. I have no idea what the ink from China is as most of us use licensed ink from Sawgrass. As Martin says 'Let the learning curve begin...'

I would NOT recommend to do icc for ink that you don't know. as when ink runs out you will have to get another one!
