Re: Olympics
Ok! So an athlete walks into the stadium and an official says to him "Pole Vaulter" and the athlete says " Nein I am German, how did you know my name is Volter?"
Jack.
Jack.
If at first you don't succeed, read the manual.

Re: Olympics
I was very sceptical/cynical about the whole Olympics thing. I can't go back on what I said about the amount of money spent but......
I feel it only fair to say that I found the whole experience fantastic. I'm not a big sports fan but being able to watch what event I wanted on the red button got me watching different sports and kept me interested.
It was such a refreshing change to see the UK united, excited and proud for once! I was listening to the Radio the other day and one British guy was complaining that the whole thing was 'too' patriotic and the commentators were all biased towards the UK! He went on to say that they were making it the UK against the rest of the world! Best line ever, fancy that eh, kinda the whole point I would think.
So good to see folk being patriotic and getting behind the athletes, the look on Tom Daleys face, Chris Hoy overcome by emotion, so many memories....good times and good to, not forget, but put the worlds problems to one side just for a couple of weeks
I can't remember the last time the whole family sat together, perched on the edges of their seats shouting in unison, "come on Mo"!!! YESSSS!!!!

Re: Olympics
the opening was boring.....way to many masonic type rituals for my liking....
The end was better, maybe because of the musicians....
but the start was boring as hell.....i know it was ment to represent britain throught the ages ect but
but i still felt proud it was over here  even with the crap start.
but still glad its over...maybe get to see the bloody news now and not 40 mins of olympics before the news

Re: Olympics
Well I have the dubious distinction of not watching any of the Olympics at all. I rarely turn my TV on, infact I think it has been on for only 1 hour in last 6 months. So make of this what you will
Re: Olympics
Why is it that the UK becomes very patriotic for the royal jubilees, olympics, football etc, and the rest of the time couldnt give a sweet f@*k about it.
Re: Olympics
Fully agree Justin.......in all honesty the one BIG thing that pi55ed me off regarding the Olympics was not the games themselves but the restrictions placed on people/places etc wanting to display anything remotely associated with the games. It was a fantastic opportunity missed. LOCOG was heavy handed and effectively killed off what could/should have been a country wide display of support. The World Cup sees the country almost draped in flags etc showing signs of support but looking around the country on a daily basis you would never have known the worlds biggest sporting event was going on.Justin;51336 wrote:I was very sceptical/cynical about the whole Olympics thing.
