Re: Bottom falling off mugs!

Post by Gelert »

A couple of customers have contacted me about the bottom falling off their mugs! It's only 2 out of a few hundred, but it's a bit worrying considering the sort of accident that could happen with hot liquids!
Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't dunk them after printing, just let them cool naturally.

Bottomless ones

I must admit that I have never ever had any mug with the bottom fall off, handle maybe, cracks maybe but the whole bottom falling off is worrying.

The trouble being is if a accident had happen then it would have been Gelert that paid the price, hence the importance of having public liability insurance. We should all have it, even if its just a :hobby:

its been said before jenny and it deserves to be repeated , theres too many chancing it out there not just insurances but tax nat ins etc thats whats killing this trade and thats why the legit amongst us struggle to make a living while those that make and sell mugs for £3.00 a pop disregarding insurances copyright laws tax etc etc it does get annoying
sorry rant over

is it possible that the customers mugs have had a heavy impact of some kind ? that may have fractured them enough that with the hot liquid they have popped,

Just seems odd that the only mugs I've made that have broken have been the same way - a crack around the edge and then the bottom falling off. I'd almost expected to lose a few handles! They're both European RN mugs, weeks apart so from different batches. They always get mailed in poly boxes inside a double walled cardboard box. Can't send them any safer than that surely?
They certainly don;t get knocked around here. But this hasn't happened to anyone else, which is quite intriguing.

I always used to prefer the smash proof card boxes to polys as I had a few get smashed to pieces in polys.

Did tweet the Royal Mail telling them that the fragile tape and stickers were there expressly for THEIR benefit:-)
