Re: First ever attempt at Layering

Post by Kahboose »

Never Layered before let alone use luminous and glossy vinyls but thought id have a go and do a top for the son for under his martial arts gear.
Not 100% happy with the sun on front logo could have got it sharper but quite pleased with the back Shogun which i did in Inkscape (thanks for heads up on that Paul)

Any tips or pointers to improve layering welcome.

Like it.. do you use registration marks when you layer vinyl.. or do you do it by eye ??

I like them! How did you achieve the speckle effect on the light coloured back layer of Shogun?

@Hidihi
I did the speckle effect in Silouhette Studio , I did a 2mm offset then I basiclly made a layer of circles of different sizes grouping & duplicating untill i got a look i liked then ungrouped the text so the offset was seperate overlayed the circles on the offset and used the subtract which cut the effect into the image , then moved the text back over and regrouped.

Sounds confusing reading that back but its really simple , i then cut the back offset part in one color and the original text in another and it worked :) Though im sure there as to be a quicker way around it.

@ RogerC
No mate , I did it by eye , I did watch a video on using registration marks but i pressed each layer seperatly due to variation in materials (some cold peel some hot , mat & glossy) still on a huge learn curve only just scratching the surface , Aren't reg marks for mainly decals ? Just wondering how youd use marks without them attaching to the fabric ?

Thanks for the positive replies much appreciated ill post a few more when i next play :)

Thanks Lee, your explanation makes perfect sense! I think I might have to have a play and see what effects I can come up with :o)

Haha, thats a big ask don't you know! It depends on whether I can create something that's a little bit interesting and worthy of pics :wink:

Its a great little machine. If you haven't done so already, download the software and find your way around it a little before your machine arrives. :o)
