That was always on the cards !
If you go for a Brother as your main printer, I would thoroughly recommend you look for another Brother that uses the same cartridges for the backup. Then, if one printer fails on you, just swap out the cartridges and you're good to go. The great thing about Brother printers is, unlike the Epsons and the Ricohs, the same cartridges can be used in a whole range of printers - because there are no chips involved. Just match your cartridge to a printer.

Why go through all the learning process of the Brother and "lumber" yourself with an Epson for backup. Best to stick to the same brand (all Brother, all Epson, or all Ricoh) - in that way, what you learn on one will apply to the other.

thats fine but...

cheapest A4 brother is about £70 - cheapest A4epson about £29.
plus the refillables carts are about £15 cheaper for the epson as well

both would be utilising the same inks anyway....

make my mind up time lol

The Epsons can be reset with a utility. But what of the Brother? I would recommend a two-printer set up. By all means have a 5890CN for A3 work but it may also be wise to seek out a cheap A4 model for day-to-day work. If the ink tank becomes an issue, the A4 can be dumped without wasting the more expensive A3. After all, at £20, my MFC-295CN was less than the cost of the waste tray for a Ricoh!
There is waste ink bag in dcp models. And I just reset my printer waste counter

Can you provide further details? Photos of how to get to the waste bag, and what you use to reset the waste counter?

I'm interested in this, as you can imagine. How did you find out where the waste bag is?
