Also try cleaning the optical strip.. inside the printer, above the chrome bar the carriage moves along, and above the drive belt, there is a strip which looks gray, give it a wipe with a dry cloth back and front. This strip tells the print head when to fire iirc.

@Spawn, I will certainly try those suggestions, thanks, although read on as it may not do me any good but still worth a try.

@Paul, I have been in contact with Epson yesterday and again today. Yesterday they gave me an option to try which I tried but it didn't work. Today after reporting back to Epson they now believe after my further testing that it has a mainboard fault, here is the agent's quote:

Agent (Sarah Foster): "This is likely to be a mainboard fault with the printer and will need to be looked at by an engineer. Can I take the printer serial number please as this should bring up a purchase date on our system"

It's currently looking like I've bought a £160 paper weight!

It sounds as if Mattie is doing everything the courier company are asking him to, with regards to a claim, so i dont see why you think Mattie will not honour a refund via the courier company - perhaps you just need to submit the photos of the printer delivery to Mattie, and leave it with him.

we had an expensive damaged parcel over xmas, took 3 weeks to get the money back from the courier company, the customer was happy to wait for me to be refunded, before i refunded them - it was something i had sold on ebay, and the man was gutted that it was so badly damaged - so was my son, it was some of his star wars stuff.

@mrs maggot... I don't recall saying on here that Mattie wouldn't honour a refund via the couriers? All the photos have been submitted and yes, we are awaiting to see what happens, but unfortuately as it turns out, even if \ when they do payout their T&Cs state their maximum for any claim is £50, which would be less than 1/3 of what I paid :frown:

Maybe the £160 paper weight comment is unjustified... but it still seems like I'm gonna be well out of pocket.

When I use a courier, the £50 is the standard cover but, if the item is worth more, it's just a case of adding a couple of quid to the shipping cost to increase the cover to £100, £250, or whatever is required. Did this not happen in this case?

Although it might be a little sneaky, the sender could have increased cover to the full original cost of the printer (£300+ was the RRP of a 1400 IIRC) and then claimed that back from the courier on presentation of the original receipt when the printer was bought. You both would have been the winner if that had happened.

@JSR.. I also do the same but in this case I don't believe this was done, maybe Mattie can confirm if this is the case?

I would just like to make a quick point here... I realise I am a new member and I don't want to come across as some sort of trouble maker for Mattie or any other forum member. If that's what any of my comments appear as then I appologies, at the end of the day I am just trying to get my printer sorted. I am happy for whatever process to take place to be compensated in full but please appreciate that I am aware of more details than posted here and it does look like I will end up out of pocket and it's a lot of money for me.

Mattie and I entered into this transaction in good faith and I would also like it to end that way.

yep, the cheaper couriers only cover up to £50 and some are only £25 so you do need to take care,

Philip - i just thought that you saying about a £160 paperweight, until you have had a chance to rectify this with the seller, was perhaps being a little unfair. - and that perhaps it should have been done off the forum,

The item should surely have been covered at least to the purchase price, for what little extra this would have cost.I have a couple of useless 1400's here, was thinking about stripping them to try and make one decent printer, pretty sure the mainboards will be ok so if it its something that can be changed easily you're welcome to one :-)
