Re: problems with goldcut JK721 using with easycut on a mac

Post by MMaria »

Hi,

I have a JK721 goldcut plotter. It works OK on my windows laptop, but the laptop is so old it will stop working soon. I bought a mac (OS Monterey) but I cannot get it working on there using easycut, which is what I have been using on the laptop.

I have a serial to usb lead which I bought as it said that a normal lead wouldn't work with it, so I have tried that (as well as a normal lead) and it says that it's sending the information to the plotter, but nothing happens. When I try and test cut nothing happens.

I have downloaded the driver necessary for the usb to serial lead, I have tried using different plotter names in the settings, changed the baud rate, used different leads, everything.

Can anyone please help me with this? I am so fed up and desperate for this to work!

Thanks.

I've tried selecting the various ports or setting it to automatic but nothing seems to work.

I think serial to usb are notoriously a pain in the butt to get working on some systems.
I remember having about 5 different brands back in the days when I used to repair electronics.

Do you think maybe trying a different brand of lead could work then? I wasn't sure about this because they all have the same ftdi chipset which I thought was what mattered? Also if I did use a different lead I wouldn't need to download a new driver would I?

I think it was the prolific ones that worked for me or something like that?
but that was a long time ago probably around 15 years ago.

Maybe try a different software?
I use sure cuts a lot for my graphtec cutter and there’s a free trial available.
maybe grab a trial and see if your new machine can see and cut something using the trial.

i used to use art cut when I first started cutting vinyl god knows why but I liked it.
then it just didn’t play well with the graphtec so I tried scal and I haven’t looked back.

Edit.
had a quick look on Amazon and this is the cable I used to use but it might not work for you as this is a different situation altogether.
mine was used for chip programming and jtag not cutting machines.
