Ceramic Discs

Hi - I have been having a very expensive nightmare with ceramic discs. I get about 4 that are fine (not perfect) out of 10. I am using the same heat press I use for all my other work and have no issues. I am using discs which seem to be good quality. I started off by using the suggested time and temperature but have been tweaking this ever since, I cannot get a consistent finish at all. I'm using trupix paper with sawgrass inks. I have tried using the one area if I see one comes out well but it doesn't matter where on the heat press I put them the finish is still blurry.

I have literally tried as much as I can. I have a big order for these and really need advise on what else I could try. Other than to never ever do these again!

presumptions... you are taping the image down?
you are heating through the paper not the ceramic?
do you have a cushion under the disc? I have found due to the discs not being actually flat flat they often are heated on one edge more than the other

Yeah image is taped down and a cushioned. I get a better result when I have the image facing down and heating through the ceramic. I'm at 187celcius and 120seconds. It's ok but but it isn't consistent, some are great some are not. I'm at a loss both mind and money lol

Do you have a picture of the blurry result?

Depending on what it looks like it could be a really easy fix.

I did 40 discs yesterday and got 18 that could be used. This order is costing me money. I have tried small increments of temperature and time and when I get a good result I try that again and get a different result. These ones in the photo where at 195c for 120 seconds. I did everything exactly the same and got different results.

If everything is staying the same then the only logical explanationg would be the quality of the product being printed onto or rather, the coating of the products. Speak to your supplier. We don't allow their name to be spoken on here for good reason so please don't mention them

Now I would say it’s pressure that’s the issue?
looks like it’s not enough pressure on those ceramics I have had a similar issue.
and mugs tend to go the same way when they aren’t straight edges.

I may be wrong but that’s my thoughts.

Are you printing several at same time? Or always printing in same position? Any cool spots on your platen?
