Have you take off the protective film before you press.

Where did you get the coasters from? I have some cork-backed coasters from BMS and there's no protective film and the coating doesn't melt. (I press mine for quite a bit longer than 30s, albeit at a lower temperature.)

A long time ago I had some coasters from somewhere (can't remember the supplier), and the printable surface was more like a white sticky label. During pressing, the glue would melt and the printed part would lift off. I don't know if that's the same thing you're getting (it was a very long time ago).

You might want to try ordering some in from BMS. If you only need a small quantity (10 or 20, for instance), they'll send them by Royal Mail for a couple of quid - so you won't be stung for expensive courier costs just for a small quantity.
