Re: Sublimation on powder coating.

Post by Deftonerdad »

Could use a little advice. I'm printing on powder coating and want to see if I'm doing it correctly. Currently I first powder the base white coat on and cure it in oven. I then apply print using a press. After that I powder coat a clear coat over the transfer and then cure that. I've noticed that the clear coat after curing makes the print alittoe blurry. Is there a better way to sublimate on powder coating?

When you are re-applying heat to the already sublimated print, it is going to blur. Pressing for a second time with high heat would have to be very short.

There are thin clear polyester films which you can sublimate a print onto directly. Would that be suitable instead of the clear coat?

I only press it once. The clear coat I cure in oven. The products I mIe need a good clear coat to protect the product from the abuse of everyday use

So is that some sort of plastic case which you have sprayed with a white polyester coating such as Subli-Glaze/ Digi Coat)?

Is the clear coat really necessary? Sublimation aluminium has a polyester film which stands up to everyday use.

There are other coatings and lacquers which crafters and jewellers use to protect designs etc.

Not sure what the product is, but if you couldn't get it to work, you could perhaps just decorate the top of the product with a thin piece of sublimation aluminium. It's hard to know what alternatives to suggest without knowing the product.
