Banner printing - Eyelets etc.

Been a few years since I did banners etc. but we're getting a new latex printer installed next week so starting wide format again.

Already been asked for a couple of banners so would appreciate any advice on pricing etc

I'll need to get the eyelet machine etc. I see expensive ones with the suppliers and cheap ones on eBay. Do you get what you pay for with one of these or does a cheap machine do the job just as well?

Hi Justin

I got mine from Sign Making Supplies. Been pretty good and would recommend it. If you are going to be doing a lot then consider bolting the thing to a bench which will make it easier.

Was thinking about a latex myself, which one did you get?


P.S. I get my material from Graftype, its about the cheapest at the moment depending on how much you buy

I've gone for the HP 115 with cutter. Should be a useful machine.

Also been looking on Grafityp as they've always been recommended but I've never really bought from them.

We use the KTP model shown in the picture at this link:

DTP Supplies is the supplier - very friendly and specialists in eyeletting.

This model uses self piercing eyelets. You drop each side of the eyelet into the holder on the machine and a single press of the pedal makes the hole and sets the eyelet in a single movement.

Much easier than trying to use a hand tooland portable enough to be shifted into a corner when not needed.

Thanks Stella What price are these free standing models? Do you find this easier than having a desktop model? I would have thought having the banner flat on the desk and moving the machine around would be better? I guess you just wheel this around the work surface if it's the right height?

It's way easier than a desktop job for us.

We drop the banners on the floor and feed them through as we eyelet - print the eyelet marks when you print the banner.

Quite quick when you get into the swing.

Can't remember the price but maybe around £125 + VAT though goodness knows what the carriage is "overseas" :biggrin:

Mine was never bolted in a fixed position or on a solid table but I do think it would be a lot easier to do it that way. Moving the machine around was just a pain in the neck, far easier to move the banner.

Also consider the self adhesive tabs. Just as strong when used in conjunction with clear reinforcing tape ( possibly stronger because they dont pull out like eyelets do).
Bit more expensive, but they look nice with digital banners and are quicker than hemming and eyeleting.

I had a quick look at similar tabs yesterday, initially dismissing them but looking at these they do look very good. I like the idea that they don't interfere with the print and are somewhat stronger.

I guess most folk expect the banner to be hemmed with eyelets so it's just changing perception.
