Problem with T-shirt press

Hi I have bought two Adkins flat bed presses it was a job lot, Really wanted Adkins has told they were the best even though these are quiet old. All though one doesn't work has HEAT FAULT shows on the controls after a short time and when you come to setting it nothing happens then other times it will. Has anybody any ideas what it could be. Also the other machine everything seems great except the finished results. The man who I bought it off told me to set it at 170 for 20-30 seconds for t-shirts but ive at to increase that to 60seconds and the outcome of the image is still faint. Ive been doing mugs for a while and this is my first go at T-shirts so ive been using an old shirt from my wardrobe im hoping the reason for this is its not suitable for printing on. The press down mechanism has been tampered with but it does seem relatively tight and in good working order. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you trying to sublimate the shirts? Are they polyester?

Just as a trial, I'd try 180 degrees C for 60 secs as a starting point for sublimation onto polyester.

Hi yes im trying to sublimate but the shirt isn't polyester. The shirt however is very old and has been washed many many times. I just keep trying a small emblem on it until I can get a decent result before I use some new ones I have. Polyester is the material modern football shirts are made of I think ?? Thanks

A very basic rule is you can only sublimate onto a polyester garment.

get a heat gun or strips on your press.
generally, sublimation needs at least 180c - 200 better.
it might transfere onto non poly, but will always wash out.
sub only works on poly.
Adkins do an excellent full service, returned LIKE NEW - costs £250 + carrage, includes all parts except control board
