Thanks for all the replies folks much appreciated :) Some scientific experimentation logging times, temps & methods is yielding some positive results now. An awful lot of mugs have been harmed during the experimentation though! I'll put them down to setup costs.

I wrote the times and temps and some idea of pressure along with which press I used on the bottoms of every mug I pressed when I was first pressing. Then I simply put the best of the best in a special container. Solid areas sometimes needed a slightly different treatment to photo mugs. Especially solid reds and blacks.
