Hello guys,

A little bit about me, am from Lithuania but live in UK for last 7 years so am in UK from 18 years. My english is not perfect, sorry if I make a lot of writing mistakes please forgive me.

I want to start mug printing after that tshirts and so on.. But now am starting with mugs wich i have a lot problems with colors, and i hope it some one will help to me becouse am lost :(

Last week I get my all stuff

printer: ricoh SG 3310 DN inks SubliJet-R
heat press from ebey coral grath ( not sure or it coerct)
paper: from xpres
plus used laptop special for mugs windows 7

So i started, I installed PowerDriver 4.1 when start installing PowerDriver in automaticly printer drivers.

intalled photo shop CS5

And CorelDRAW x7

all printing with no problems, making image on PS then move to CorelDRAW and i (think) i done all setting corect on corelDRAW and PowerDriver

then print image cut out and put on mug.

First i tried heatpress make 200C and press mug for 180 seconds, how I done wait when heat press reach 200C then put mug and temperature goes down to for about 45C so tatal left 145C wait when reach again 200C then turn on timer, after 180 seconds (3 min) finish paper is very brown over cooked :(

Now i make 180C, when teperature is reach put ready mug in heat press and imediatly turn on timer count down so far not bad a paper just litlle bit brown.

And still am not happy with colors YES finaly yesterday find Pouls test image on forum here and I post images here to show how collors is not good blured, colors go out from border, whe you wach closer to mug colors is very bad :(

And hope some one can help to me make all settings correct.

P.S. I can`t upload photos here :( so i upload else where, hope is not a problem.

My test mug photos with Poul`s test image:

you overcook your mugs. Ricoh printers with gel inks need MUCH less heat. I don't use ricoh my self but others recommend £170C?

worth to have a go ;)

Yeah 170c is a good starting point for ricoh inks. We could do with a sticky stating that print problems with ricoh normally stem from supplier recommended temp settings being based on non gel inks and that gel inks need a lower temp or possibly shorter time. An awful lot of post are about blurs/blacks going brown caused by overcooking ricoh gel ink.

No need to import from Photoshop to Corel - you can print from Photoshop.
If you know photoshop, and colour management, then get the ICC for your printer from Sawgrass and use that, no need for Power Driver if you have Photoshop.

Okey, so for sawgrass gel inks sublejet-r need less heat and less time ? So 170c and what time can some one advice ?

And what about photo shop icc ? I all ready tried a lot mugs but still not good. Tomorrow i will try less temp and time, but i think samethink with colors settings wrong.

In my press I do them 170c for 3mins but you might need to play with time and pressure it's all a bit variable depending on your press but there are alot of post with overcooking ricoh inks by going over 170c in mug presses. Paul sells ICC profiles made to order for your printer and that should fix most of your colour issues.

You should not need. Custom icc if you use genuine carts. Before playing with icc, try to sort out your times and temps first ;)

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting needing a custom ICC, just to use the Sawgrass ICC in Photoshop, and ditch PowerDriver. A custom ICC will likely improve your colour accuracy, but that isn't really the issue until you've got your time and temperature for the inks worked out first.

P.S. heating temp is: 160C and time is 180.

Maybe anyone can suguest me what is perfet press for mug ?? or it is diferent for everyone ?

And also, thank you all who helped me, and show me correct way to fix my problems.

P.S.S. I seen some videos on you tube, that after heating mug they put in wather home temp why is that ?? and some peoples not recomend this but some recomend... so litlle bit lost in this case :|
