Hello everyone, I've just watched a Conde video of how to press a mug, in the video Britney uses Protective Paper which is normal printer paper wrapped around the transfer paper.
So if I buy a BMS DF1 press, do I need to use protective paper with each press I do
Thanks in advance.

I started off not using it, then I watched a video and started using it - then went to see a Pro at work who doesn't use it.. so - upshot is I don't.

i didn't use it in my old mug press, then found I was getting transfer through to the heat wrap that would sometimes come through. It only happened if I pressed a mug using a partial transfer after I've done some full wrap prints. i.e. the transfer paper is cut smaller so I have a white border.
Anyway, I've since started using paper, either plain copy paper, or greaseproof baking paper and after having the same thing happen on my flat press I now use paper or teflon there too.
I stopped using teflon on the mug press because it seemed to be messing with the print image. I was getting strange lines on the image. They stopped when I stopped using the teflon and went back to paper.

Protective paper stops any stray ink getting from your transfers onto the pressing plate/blanket of the press, which can ruin future prints. Doesn't have to be anything special really, just a protective layer - paper works out cheap, and is disposable which means when it gets stray ink printed on it, you can churck it away and get another sheet.

I use a strip of silicone baking paper.. just saves any potential blow out on the blanket

Used to use it all the time, until BMS said it wasn't necessary. Not had any problems.

Use it in my flat presses, never in mug presses. No logic there really.
Janners.

Thanks for all replays, and yes this is the wrong section to put it in LOL I think I'll just try it out without the paper and see what happens, after all its not mentioned in the BMS DF 1 PDF manual I've read.
