Sublimation Canvas.
Re: Sublimation Canvas.
A friend of mine wanted a Canvas of the image I posted the other day - I cant do anything at the moment without a press so he went and bought one from Asda (he needs it for his parents anniversary at the weekend).
So I am wondering if canvas sublimation has any problems - I was thinking of buying some timber sections and making the frames myself but BMS sell pairs starting at under £1.
Also the canvas it's self, it needs to have a high Polyester content, we wouldn't usually 'Wash' a canvas so am wondering if it doesnt get wet it surely would be ok?
I'm not saying I will go down that route (my local B&M or something like that - cheap tat shop) are selling the mounted canvas at less than £2 for a 500x400 - it is mounted so I would need to remove the canvas obviously but I have only just started thinking about this properly. I was thinking of buying one of these cheap ones for testing purposes.
Anyone doing this? and where to get the proper Canvas from in any quantity ? as when I find something that works I will want a few meters. I think BMS have it at 1m x 500mm for £7.50 plus postage.

Re: Sublimation Canvas.
We use picture lizard for our stretcher bars ... http://www.picturelizard.co.uk
(I think we use another supplier as well for them, but can't remember thier name!)
And if wanting canvas to sublimate, just get polyester canvas... hint any fabric that is 100% polyester will sublimate, so you could have a different look to your 'canvasses' if you don't use actual canvas

Re: Sublimation Canvas.
Have my new Adkins, and it's the Dogs B@ll*cks.
I found some 100% acid free cotton stretched canvas today - just for testing, I realise this cant get wet etc but I wanted something to mess with tonight until I get some things in to work with properly.
What are the temps and times for this type of material? I want to sublimate some images onto it.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to sublimate onto 100% cotton canvas.

Re: Sublimation Canvas.
I tried the BMS stuff before, printed lovely, but unfortunately with our a4 printer we can't do any canvas at a decent size! have you any old white polyester/sub t-shirts lying around?! could cut one of them to try!!
Re: Sublimation Canvas.
All I want to do is small canvases of Motorcycles, I only have an A4.
Nothing cotton/poly around the place, I was even looking for bed sheets of the correct composition earlier but bed sheets like that aren't very popular it seems.

Re: Sublimation Canvas.
poly bed sheets are bloody awful to sleep in/on!
you'll need poly canvas for sublimation.
A4 canvases will be really small by the time you've wrapped them around the stretcher bars.

Re: Sublimation Canvas.
Your right of course - in the end I would have Canvas Keyrings, I just wanted SOMETHING to do with my new press
Since then though I have had a few jobs come in for it so am happy now - I'm sure I will find a use for the canvas I bought earlier.
