Is it possible to print on to a metal plaque and still keep the background 'metal'? I want to sub black and red text on to a Aluminmum plaque.

if you don't apply background colour then yes :rolleyes:

what kinda coating is on the metal to allow the ink to take? - I want bright colours like you get on a mug but on the metal

Base of every colour i white. So if you sublimate on white aluminium you will get bright and vivid colours. If on metalic colours you will be limited. But you should try and sew. Metal prints lovely.

btw... Coating is clear.

The only way you will get "bright" colours on say a silver metal is by using an OKI white which will back the colours with white. Otherwise anything you print on the metal will obviously be affected by the base colour (in this instance grey/silver).

Alternatively you can print on to a white coated metal but that might defeat the object of what you are trying to achieve.

SUBLIMETALS do an excellent range of metals for pretty much anything

Colours will be bright on silver but they will have the metallic effect with the grain showing through. You need to remember the inks are opaque so whatever the background is it will show through.

Thanks for the advice gents. I thought it was linkly I would need a base of white. I think what I want to do wouldn't be possible.
The plaques I wanted to make are to be replacements for the plaques owners have on their cars in my club.

Below ow is a photo of what I wanted to achivr.. But now think its a none starter.

I do not see that as being that difficult?

Only thing i would do is use an OKI White or find someone who has one...
