Re: Vehicle Vinyl

Post by AdamB »

I'm going to make the car look like a mobile advertisement for the shop and I already have a design in mind and the right vinyl etc to use - but, I have a question for 'those that cover cars' if I may please?

On the rear screen (of most cars) you have the heating element on the rear window. I have also seen that area on other vehicles have vinyl banners etc that 'cover' the heating element - will the vinyl not melt, or at least get warm/hot so the vinyl will peel off?

Not trying to sound like an idiot - I don't do vehicles but have done my own signs so I have the machine(s) to do it myself and save some cash so I thought I'd better 'just make sure' first.

Many thanks in advance :)

I've seen decals all over rear screens so would assume these folks don't use the heater. However if you are looking to put a decal which encroaches on the defrost element I should think it will be fine. In essence the element only gets warm to melt the ice and doesn't really get the hot.

Thanks Roger, that's my plan - to cover the rear element in some of the design and I just wondered (after seeing others have decals on cars like you said) if it was possible to run the element without it affecting the vinyl.

I have had decals fitted to my car in the past and still used the rear heated window.. I think the sun beating down on the car in the summer would probably produce more heat than the element would :)

I have a vinyl sign over the heating element on the inside and use the heater it's been there about 6 years and never been a problem,I had a van once with the vinyl on the outside and that ruined the wiper rubber but the vinyl stayed in tacked,

Just think where to local window tinting companies apply there film. the inside.

To be honest ive always applied vinyl to the outside of glass on cars. Never been a problem as long as there wipers are not from the £ shop.
