it may block your ip. It did happened to me few times.

If it blocked the IP he wouldnt be able to load the site at all. This also happens whether or not its a Static IP or Dynamic. The only way around that would be to use a Proxy. Going down that route though is defeating the objective. Have you checked BT for line performance? They may be doing routine maintenance or something. It may be also due to the host you are with. Some particular cheap hosts over-sell the space on their servers causing what you may call "Traffic Jams". Might be worth looking into a different host or a different ISP.

When it's down, can you PING it? If so, can you run tracert from a dos command prompt?

Re: Why does site go down
Even PINGing a site will not always result in a valid address. Most, but not all servers now incorporate ICPM pinging but a lot will ignore this command and can be filtered out by firewalls and other security measures... although pinging is not a security threat, rather a form of connectivity and reply, and other sites will respond but give no real information of the IP being searched. There are no real ways of determining if a site is up or down apart from physical searching... even some IP Search sites (with all singing and dancing methods of searching) do not deliver 100% accurate results. Its a hit and miss game. I can put code onto my site that will show as a live site but will ignore any requests to show it as available to view. Resolving any IP address is a complicated process... which Im sure none of us could understand and would therefore just rather sit back and wait until we get a connection or contact our ISP to resolve the matter.... for me, I would leave it to my ISP and if my site was down for longer than 24 hours... set up a dispute ticket!.... not really sure if you know what I mean... sometimes I confuse myself!

Re: Why does site go down
its only with my own domain web site, and i find if i turn internet on and off it returns, just a bit confusing the rest of it for me!
Re: Why does site go down
I would use a tool like this one: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/web-s ... eb-server/ to find other websites that are hosted on the same server as yours and see if you can access them. If you can access them and not yours, then it suggests the issue is not with the server, nor your connection, but with your site or something set up on your hosting account.
At least it might help narrow down where the problem might be.

How long has this been happening for?
Also is your domain name registered with the same people that your site is hosted with?
Also try a differant browser and clear out your temp internet files and see if it still does it.
Let me know the results...
