Re: help please!!

Post by beefyor1983 »

hi guys. lookin help ive a very basic startup b1100 ciss system and im pretty new to the game. i got a call today looking for a quote for a job. its for 200 high gloss laminate bags to have a single colour logo printed on them. the bags are to be black with a gold or white logo to be printed on them. This will be for more in the future also if all goes well. now the problem occurs how would you do this. i know there is sprays you can get to allow siblimation but then the problem is they sre black. i know you can get sheets which allow transfer onto dark products also is that an idea. maybe i should get someone else to do me them and then just press them on to the bags myself but them you have all the added cost which comes with that. any help would be apreciated i know the person looking the order also and if im reasonable enough i will get the job. HELP PLEASE

You can't is the short answer

Gloss laminated bags have a varnish on them which melts as soon as you put it under the heat press. You also have the problem of the glue that holds the bags together melts. Plus if your platen is not set up for bags you have to put the whole bag under the platen which created a very uneven surface.

The only way to do this would be screen print. There are a few on hear that will be able to help you with that and it might be worth farming the job out and putting a percentage mark up on the whole thing.

Not sure whether screen print would cover the black due to the bags already being made up, so only getting one hit at it. Another option may be hot foil which a lot of the high class shops use on their bags these days.

Edit: Just to add - they will want them for next to nothing and only want a few hundred at a time - these kind of jobs are normally printed onto flat media, in the thousands, then made into bags afterwards - not the other way around. I print paper bags and get these quotes to do daily  nothing ever comes of them

Depending on the logo and durability required you might get away with sign vinyl?

Not really feasible, the faff around would make it too expensive - i'd place a bet they want these for far less than 70p a bag, including the cost of the bag.

ok so with that in mind what alternatives have. i forget about the job or offer an alternative option maybe a cloth drawstring sublimation bag. they are basically just to put perfume into. any other ideas of products out there that could be sublimated or is this kind of thing going to be far too dear?

Banner vinyl 'might' just do it. It's more flexible and possibly durable for your customers needs.
