working with layers

hi guys
iam very new to working with coral draw iam trying to make some templates of my own iam struggling to grasp working with layers i have looked at a couple of videos but they go to fast. iam sure there are other people are new to graphic software and would be gratefull if some of you more experinced guys and ladies would do a laymans write up on the basics of cutting and pasting into layers and cutting around obgects any help would be appreciated.
