I am using an old version (Photoshop 2) and can't figure out how to apply the vignette effect to a picture. Keeps telling me " a selection is required " but I can;t figure it out. Old version but does everything I need it to do, well almost!

The selection tool is the second button down on the floating tools bar.

From what I can figure out by your message Photoshop needs to know where you want the vignette applied. Using the selection tool, click and drag over the area you want to vignette, one you are satisfied with the are indicated by the moving dashed line, click on the vignette tool and awa you go.

The above is only what I think it could be by the way. Can't remember that far back :-)

Try http://picasa.google.co.uk/ It's a free picture editor and has quite a good and easy to use vignette tool.

If at first you don't succeed, read the manual.
