Re: Ricoh Cashback problems

Post by JMugs »

Bought a new Ricoh printer with their cash back offer.
I emailed them with all the details.
Receive an email back to say "All confirmed and will be sent out in the next 30 days".
30 days pass and nothing.
Email to say where is it and get a reply to say "Sorry will be done this week".
2 weeks later nothing, so I have emailed them again.

Anybody else had a problem?

How odd
I have an email to tell me Craig replied to this thread, but it's not here.

Anyway
Craig if you ask your supplier they will let you know if the promotion is still running, as it wasa limited time offer but I can not remember when it ended.

The Ricoh SG3110 cash back was available on purchases to June 28th. Then Ricoh launched a new cash back on this printer BUT specifically excluded any Ricoh SG3110's bought for sublimation (it's in the small print).

Personally, I tend to avoid Cashback offers when I see them. In my mind, if they want to sell the item at the reduced price then the way to do it is just to reduce the price - not insist on the end-purchaser jumping through hoops to get their money back.

"Cashback" just gives them a way to not give you the cash back if they have enough smallprint in their T&Cs to provide themselves with a loophole. Why not just reduce the price if they want to be honest about it?

If the price before cashback isn't one that I'm prepared to pay, I don't buy it.

Yep, I read that. See: http://www.ricoh-cashback.com/uk/terms.htm, re:
16. Dye-sublimation customers that have purchased a SG 3110DN GelJet printer will not be eligible to claim cashback.
What a ridiculous get-out clause. Surely it's no business of theirs what we use the printers for. What if we're a "dye-sublimation customer" that wants to use the printer for Office document printing? Are we still ineligible?

This goes back to what I said above. If T&Cs are written with loopholes in mind, you shouldn't buy the product based on the cashback because, chances are, you won't get it.

My purchase was before June 28th.
Time will tell.

I have not had a problem before with cashback offers before, these included Canon and Orange. One of them said they could effectively reduce the deal by £20 or do cashback of £50. The reason being most people do not take up the cashback offer!

No sooner do I post the above and I receive this from Ricoh

I am sorry – for some reason accounts did not include your cheque on the last payment run. I have handwritten one today and will get it signed and sent out in the post first class this evening.

I do apologise for the inconvnenience.

Were they reading the thread? Did Martin at BMS wave a wand?

I look forward to my cheque.
