Re: BMS - Sparta mugs printing

Post by John G »

Hi All,
Has anyone printed the Sparta mugs from BMS with the curved or fluted lip - just tried and they don't work in my press (coralgraph). The diam is smaller than the usual mugs and when I close the press its just tightens onto the lip and handle so blanket doesn't get a good contact with the mug/transfer.

Is there anything I can bulk the mugs out with, that will transfer heat and not affect the image?.

Cheers John

Hi John, I had the same problem when i first tried the BMS Sparta mugs in my Coralgraph press but i rectified this by cutting a piece of silicone mat to the size required to fit around the mug. I now attach the silicon and this pads the mug out enough to fit in and increase the temperature by 10 degrees and add a few more seconds to the normal time. Have done over a hundred like this now without a problem. Just make sure the silicone mat is smooth both sides or else the pattern will transfer onto the print.

Thanks for that info - brilliant.
Where's the best place to get these sheets as I may have an order for a few hundred of these sparta mugs.

Have you tried pressing the mug with the lip of the mug poking out of the press? You will get better contact

All the best

I use these sheets to press water bottles, mine are also 1.5mm thick but tend to lift out with the bottle which is annoying....I might try a single 3mm sheet rather than two 1.5mm sheets

I've tried that Martin but the diam is much smaller than a standard BMS mugs I use and when you tighten the press it just closes onto the handle.
Cheers Paul, I'll take a look at the local shops round here, and if no joy, will purchase one off the ebay link.

I'll try and get the thickest one I can - thanks Justin.

I purchased my silicone sheet from the same link that Paul has attached. It's a large sheet so i cut a few down for the Sparta mugs so you don't have to keep swapping the same silicone mat over and there was still enough silicone left over to use for the sublimation slates. Red was my colour of choice so if you pick blue then don't blame me if it doesn't work as well! :-)
