I came across this article last night, useful for anyone that is into graphic design.

On this site you have a couple of options, if you have something specific you are looking for – type in the mainstream commercial design program ie. Dreamweaver and then it will give you a list of alternatives (both paid and free).

This is a very inspired site. There are always people wanting to design things but don't want to go through the trouble of buying the commercial software. Alternative to really looks like it offers a lot, even outside of graphics design.
