I've been reading up on sublimation here for a while as it's something I have been interested in starting for some time, so thank you to all the very helpful contributors on this forum. I have now finally taken the plunge and bought a second hand Ricoh 3300 and a multi press unit plus bits and bobs from a guy giving up.

Having spend all day trying to download the Ricoh drivers - I can see why other windows 7 users were tempted to "use a sledgehammer" - My windows 7 hadn't even recognised the hardware as a printer!!!! My son has now succeeded in getting them set up manually - I hope (I haven't printed anything but a nozzle check yet)

Quick question already - is it normal to use Kodak and Epsom inkjet papers for sublimation? - as this is what has been included by previous user?

Sure I'll be searching lots more info' here in the next few weeks!

No, wrong papers, I think these are geared towards printing out photos and will be a gloss finish - you want a sublimation paper from the likes of xpres bms etc. Please check you have sublimation "Sublijet - R" ink carts in the printer and not standard ricoh - if you have standard ricoh carts, you've bought the wrong printer.

Hi Hazel and welcome to the forum :-) Some Epson papers can be used for sublimation but don't tend to work as well as the papers specifically sold for the purpose. I swear by Xpres paper, one of the cheapest and for me at least the best suited :-)

Just thought i's clarify - the epson and kodak papers, if they are gloss, they're no good. I'd still check your carts though !

Welcome Hazel. :)

If you've got a nozzle check then you've succeeded! You'll also need to download the PowerDriver software from www.sawgrasseurope.com.

If you check your cartridges in the printer and they should say SubliJetR or VisiSubR.

Thanks for the info' I have downloaded the power driver from Sawgrass. The paper is not a shiny photographic type, but the thin "photo paper" I had assumed it was a cheaper option - the guy has been using the set up for sublimation OK and showed me completed items. I am now worried about the ink cartridges though, he has recently replaced them and they don't say anything on them, no manufacturer just a PS ??? I never even thought he might have used anything other than the correct sublijet R refills? Any ideas?

SubliJet-R and VisiSub-R both have labels on them showing what they are. Don't know what this PS means - can you remove cartridge, take a photo, and upload picture here? Is there nothing else on the cartridge at all when they are removed?

Thanks Martin, I've taken the photos but can't get them to upload here, not my day!!

Basically the side label has no manufacturer name, just the colour in a large "drip" shape, the colour name in lots of languages, and safety warning in lots of languages. At the bottom is bar code and "PS" under, nothing else. Looks like the seller used some dodgey inks, if it's ruined the printer how will I know? The whole kit was on Fleabay as a used sublimation processing kit, so if it's no good at least I have Paypal to claim on (thankfully didn't pay cash). I have emailed the seller to ask what make the inks are.

The original printer was from BMS with the SubliR gels.

Thanks for your help
