Re: My first mug

Post by sarahjayne »

So up and running, so decided to try a simple frame with text, in black. Followed the instructions with the mug press - 160 degrees for approx 230 secs (it says 200-300) and adjustedthe pressure nut, have to confess had no idea with this but the mug was pretty tight in there.
Mug print is clear and even but it is more very dark brown than black - I think that the problem is insufficent time and perhaps not enough pressure.
Would you guys agree or disagree?

Might be wrong but I seem to think brown is caused my overcooking. I do mugs at 180c for 180 seconds generally.

I'd try a little more temperature. 180 degrees C or so, up to a max of 200. This should help...

when the press is heating nup make sure there is a scrap mug in there
and then when you put the proper mug in wait for the temp to climb back to what it should be ie. 190c
when it reaches temp then do the countdown 180 seconds etc

i do mine at 180 for 180 simples

but every press is dif, you can print the same mug more than once so do small images as tests on the same mug until you get it right
that way you don't wreck too many mugs ;)

you'll get there keep practising

I usually go 180 for 180, sounds daft but i usually set the tempt then when it starts its countdown put the mug in then, also it's usually a good idea to "dunk" the mug to stop the process, just be careful it doesn't shatter (I've not had one do it yet but there always a first time).

I was dipping the mug into cool water when it came out and after my first overcook - heating with a blank mug, putting mug in and then when it reached temp again waiting 180 secs.
I made a beautifully framed with beautiful black text mug - upside flipping down .....
but oh me likes making mugs ;-) That's Christmas presents 2011 sorted ...

Never mind you can sell that mug on the Australian market. :)
