Hey,

first newbie question coming up

Basically im looking to produce the popular leavers hoodies design that is going round at the moment, Im not really sure the best way to go about something this complicated , whether to mix certain techniques or if i could get away with one system.

Here is an example of what i am looking at :

I can tell you from experience dong the task in vinyl is extremely difficult and not worth the time spent on it. You need to get them screen printed or transfers made

Owwwwwwwwwwwwwww - I've weeded some stuff and many my designs are quite fiddly but this would take AGES to weed and like accdave said - the time spent weeding it wouldn't be viable - definatley a screen print job as the names will all be the same (or a plastisol transfer made that you can press yourself when required).

JohnG may be the best to advise on the best method for this?

i would have plastisol transfer made up for it, leavers hoodies normally 50 plus at a time, you are looking at £4/£5 (rough estimate for smaller qtys) a time for the prints, plus set up cost with the printer, no weeding etc - and you can still personalise the front yourself. leavers hoodies have all been done this year round here, we normally do them to co-incide with the proms - parents know they have to spend out on the prom so the extra for the hoodie/t shirt just gets added to their bill

As said above, it wouldn't be possible to weed all that - plastisol transfer, screen print or DTG would be the way to go.

Thanks for the advice everyone, i kinda had a feeling the weeding would mean id have to start now for them to be ready next year.

And i wasnt planning on doing this years hoodies, just to prepare myself and learn the trade for next years leavers.

So using plastisol transfer for the tricky '2012' bit and then using cut vinyl for the unique names of each student would be a viable option ?

Also would the plastisol x-fer suffer in the wash ?

its the only way to do it if not having them screened, or DTG - the transfer is basically like a screen print you put on yourself if that makes sense, they wash and wear very very well, i do hundreds of them every year - for all sorts of events, then any personalisation is easy with vinyl added

So that's that settled then, Ill get reading over the forum about the x-fers and go from there

If the design was no more than A4 then could could do this with the Magic Touch WOW papers. You can print white on any colour by not doing the final colour transfer bit of the process.
