Re: Ricoh 3210 crashing photoshop - help please!

We have recently bought and tested a Ricoh 3210 from Dye Sublimation Supplies with a view to buying more to replace our broken SG400 printers. (We don't get along with the SG500s - the colour / contrast is crazy off compared with the perfect prints we get from the SG400). The 3210 produces fantastic print results BUT it crashes photoshop after every print. As a workaround we were resetting PS print preferences with every print which was still a huge pain but since reaching out to adobe for support, and their remote agent tinkering with something, we are now unable to print anything because PS crashes as soon as you hit print. We've moved it to a different PC, updated all drivers, firmware, and photoshop and have the same problem. I've spoken to support at Dye Sub Supplies, Adobe and Ricoh but no-one can offer any solution or even take responsibility for the issue. So just before I fling the printer and all the ink I bought into the sea, has anyone else had this problem and did you manage to fix it?

Hi This exact same thing happened with my Ricoh SG3110DN printer a few years back. No joy from Adobe and I ended up doing what you're doing - i.e. resetting Preferences every time.

I can't remember now how I got around this, but I think I reverted to a different version of Photoshop and it just worked again! What version are you using?

Hi There , We had a similar problem when we loaded an image into photoshop, as soon as we to print photoshop would crash/ghost right out which was very frustrating. the problem we had was the information saved the from the image i.e. printer settings/profiles would cause it to crash. Our workaround was to copy the image onto a new document and print from there which was although more time consuming it did print. We tried older versions of PS but to no avail.

Photoshop will crash when you try to print to any different printer. So if I have a saved template set up to print to the main printer, then want to print from Photoshop to another installed printer, it will crash as soon as you try to print.

So are you trying to print files which have saved printing information for your older printer?

To get around this, create a new A4 document, insert your design into this new blank template. Set up to print as usual. Save the template. Then use this same blank template to print every file.

Thanks, glad I'm not alone! I've tried all the available versions of PS and it's the same on them all.

Thanks for the reply. It seems not to be due to printing to a new printer as all these files have been printed to multiple printers and if I create a new file, print it on same printer, save it, open it again PS crashes when I hit print. Your suggestion does work if we create new blank file for every print session and drag each layer we want to print onto the new file. It's a step forward, thanks! Massive faff though :(

Yes this is the exact problem we're having. Resetting photoshop print preferences sometimes works but not always. New doc each time seems to work now but it's a huge pain.

When I say I reverted to an older version of Photoshop that means I went back to version CS5! I don't believe you can do that now with Adobe's subscription scam though. To be honest, I find very little of value in the later versions compared to good old CS5. I don't need all of the AI crap, there are much better AI imaging solutions available online.

I really got p*ssed off with PS when they upped the requirements for graphics cards and removed the 3D features. That's when they lost me as a subscriber.

If you save that new blank file after you have printed...name it as your 'printing template' etc, can you insert every design into that blank file? Photoshop should remember the printing information each time and it will not crash. This is what I do. Not much of a faff if you use the same printing template.

I think I tried that and if you print the same file again it crashes!
