Re: Rubbish mugs

Hoping for some help please.

I am trying to sublimate some mugs, and every single one has turned out very washed out. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong!

I am using "Style" sublimation paper from Ink Experts, and a Creworks 5 in 1 heat press. First one was at 180 degrees for 180 seconds, then I read that that was too hot and too short, so I did one for longer... same result. Next one (pictured) was at 170 degrees for 420 seconds. they all look the same and I'm running out of mugs!

My instinct is that its the press, as it just doesn't feel sturdy (for mugs, the flat press is really good), but I'm no expert.

If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong please let me know. Thanks in advance Image

Ok. Well not mugs and not paper so either is terrible sublimation ink although more likely the press. Feel free to post us a couple of printed sheets if you want us to print them onto a couple of seconds we have (we use 5013 from Xpres) so then you're know if ink or press. Send us a private message if you want our address.

Thank you, that’s very generous! The ink is also from Ink Experts, everything is from them……. Apart from the press.

Does sound like the press. In my opinion the 5 in 1 are no substitute for decent individual use machines.

If you're increasing settings that dramatically it ponts to the press. Worth investing in a cheap infra red temp gun to check the temps.

I'm assuming printer nozzle check is perfect?

Even a cheap, poor quality press should give you better results, they just don't last as long and can have blanket issues.

I’ve not done a nozzle check, but it’s printing ok for other stuff. Done some mouse mats since, all good. I bought a sublimation starter bundle from Ink Experts 3 weeks ago, and it’s been used every day since.

UKPrintedMugs has kindly offered to do a test, I think he’ll confirm it’s the press. Then I’ll be asking for advice on mug presses!

If that's the case it has to be either the mugs or the mug press, the latter being the most obvious.

Thank you. I’ve just ordered an infrared temp gun too.
