Howdy folks. I run a one person shop(2200sq.ft.) constructed on my property just west of my house so my commute is less than 50'. My core business is fine art reproduction. I employ a Betterlight scaning back and a Hell s-3900 drum scanner for image capture and output to 44" Epsons. About 10 years ago the guy I buy my printers from talked me into getting a F6070 printer. I could only afford a 19x25 Heat press so the 44" printer was overkill. I guess I was hoping dyesub side of the business would take off and I would eventually buy a large pneumatic heat press. Truth of it is I barely run this stuff. I haven't even turned the heat press on for a couple years until a couple days ago. It turns out that it is virtually impossible to control the color to the extent my clients are used to with the inkject canvas and cotton prints from my 9900 and 9570 Epsons. I sorta gave up on any kind of critical color management years ago. Plus all the anomalies with substrates like pimples, streaks, chipping etc create waste factors that eat up any profit one might eke out.
Sad state of affairs, eh? Especially since I have at least $5K of various blanks on the shelf. So I'm hoping to learn some things here since probably most of my woes are self inflicted by being so busy with the inkjet side of the business I neglect dyesub. That soon will change.
Dismally Cheerful,
