Black Dotted Line on Mugs
Re: Black Dotted Line on Mugs
Hi everyone,
I wonder if you could help me with something.
I'm pretty new to this (someone bought me a Cricut mug press for my birthday!) and I've found on some mugs I sublimate I am getting a thin line of black dotted lines. I've attached a couple of photos. Do you know what would cause this and how I can stop it? I'm not doing it professionally, but I do enjoy it and I'd like to get better at it. The mug wastage is high at the moment though!
I did two of this mug as I was playing about, one had the dots one didn't so it wasn't anything invisible on the design itself.
Also, is there any product or technique that removes tiny mistakes like this. Seems a shame to bin them when everything else is spot on. Thanks all!

Re: Black Dotted Line on Mugs
The dots are caused by ink on one of the paper movers, its known as pin wheeling
as for removing the print, alas no, once its on its on

Thank you very much! Now I know what it is I think the paper I am using for my designs is too thin, they are really busy designs but luckily I have some 125gsm to try tomorrow.
I love the designing but the printing is terrifying - all that work and it can all come to nothing but the bin ... I need to invent the black dot remover and make a fortune

Printers and the whole sublimation process can be really fussy about papers. I would recommend getting both SRace and TruePix to try out.

Most likely an epson but (I shouldn’t say this) I haven’t really had issues with pinwheel marks.UK Printed Mugs;151359 wrote:+1 for changing to better printer
I do have massive issues with pinwheel marks on my cannon printers. (Used for edible icing sheets)

Re: Black Dotted Line on Mugs
I had to play around with paper type and quality settings. Ended up using highest quality /plain paper. The slower print time did the trick.
I cut my own sublimation paper, and when the edge is less than perfect, the black ink stains the paper and the rollers.
