Card sublimation

As anyone ever sublimated onto thick card.. similar to beer mat thickness.
I'm making some car air fresheners for a friend and I've seen someone use transfer paper for Dark fabrics and it adhered well to the card itself.
I was wondering if you could use sublimation spray instead?
I know they actually make sublimation air freshener blanks but for the cost of just the blanks alone it makes it an expensive promotional give away . Any suggestions?
