How to print the inside of a mug ?
Re: How to print the inside of a mug ?
Hello everyone,
this is my first topic here in DSF, I'll try to keep it short, my Gf had a souvenir mug from turkey which someone broke it so i'm trying to make a replica for her, The mug was one of STARBUCKS collector series & i couldn't find the design online, also the mug was rare and very expensive on eBay or amazon, so i managed over the last week to design a replica of the outer image and the outside bottom, but I can't figure out how to paint the inside of the mug with the dark brown color.
What i need help with:
1- How to paint the inside of the mug with solid color (dark brown)
.
2- I tried to apply the outside bottom part using the same technique used to apply the outer design (Heating a special printed paper) but it didn't work, the printing guy said that this part of the mug is not treated to be printed on and we have to use another technique using a paper called "Decal", is this right? also is this decal technique can be used to print the inside of the mug? also is it safe, like chemically safe cuz it will coat the inside of the mug?
.
3-Also the image in real like is a little bit greener than it look is there's a fix for that? (the green tone appeared after applying the design on the mug, the printed paper was just fine)
Here's a picture of the required original startbuck mug:

And here's a picture of replica mug on progress:

Thank you.

You can buy inner-coloured sub mug blanks, however, most suppliers have a minimum order of 1 box (36 mugs).

First of all thank you for your reply,
Secondly, I come from Egypt so this is not possible at all here as it's not common and only come from foreign imports, that's why I need a way for making it myself not to buy it becuase I can't find it in the first place to buy it, also this website is expensive and doesn't ship to Egypt.
Thank you.

Ah, sorry, I didn't notice your location.
If the mug is intended for use then there aren't many (if any) options available to you. If it's just for display purposes then yes, a decal might do the job, or mask of the rest of the mug and spray the interior.
This is partly a joke, so don't take it too seriously, but some of my mugs I use at home are already turning brown inside due to the fact I like black tea!

Re: How to print the inside of a mug ?
I think the only way you might be able to do this is by using a ceramic paint.
My recommendation would be to speak to a local pottery person. They might be able to help in getting the inside coloured and afterwards you can sublimate the outside.
I would recommend you get a few coloured because you might damage one when printing the outside.

this link is to a mug on ebay at £14.99, alot cheaper than trying to make one yourself.
