Problem printing greeting card PDF
Re: Problem printing greeting card PDF
Hi all, I hope this is okay to post. I took the plunge and bought a canon printer to print greetings cards. I am going to be printing onto A5 card to be folded to make an A6 card. I had all my designs saved as an A6 PDF hoping I could then select A5 paper size when printing. I've tried printing with acrobat as it's a pdf and not having much luck! I can only select A5 paper size if I keep the settings as just normal paper, if I switch to the greetings card setting it doesn't seem to have A5. I printed one card almost fine but it was centred it was off, another I tried to print had these coloured lines all down the side?!
Can anyone suggest the best way to print a pdf that's to be folded?!
Any help is appreciated as I'm at a loss!

Re: Problem printing greeting card PDF
Personally I would print A5 in a layout as it would look on the A5 sheet before folding. (half blank sheet)

Thank you I did try that and it was the best outcome but still not centred right, maybe I just need to play around with the settings a bit moreMrteajunkie;142370 wrote:Personally I would print A5 in a layout as it would look on the A5 sheet before folding. (half blank sheet)

Re: Problem printing greeting card PDF
Not centred right have you allowed for bleeding? (not sure of the expression)
Are the paper tray adjusters tight against the paper?
If the paper is pulling through off centre the print isn’t going to be straight.

I may not of allowed for bleed! I'll have another go today and do it on one A5 sheet instead and add the bleed marks, thanks for your helpMrteajunkie;142372 wrote:Not centred right have you allowed for bleeding? (not sure of the expression)

Re: Problem printing greeting card PDF
It can be very difficult to guarantee the print will come out straight and aligned to the fold - even with a very good printer (Epson 4900). Many moons ago I was printing around 20 different scenes which made it too expensive to use 3rd party printing. After much experimenting I settled on printing each card on a single a4 with suitable bleed and then trimming to size. The final step was running through a card creaser and I could guarantee the crease being accurate. Naturally it increased my workload but I never had any more misaligned failures. If you do go down this road then I would invest in a good rotatrim pro cutter. Expensive but lasts forever.

I print A5 cards on an A4 sheet with my Canon ix6850 . I don't add a bleed, I print 'Borderless' instead. This works fine for me on pre-creased paper but I prefer to use my own sheets and crease them myself because I have a wider choice of paper/card and at cheaper prices than the pre-creased stuff.
When I get on my pc later today I'll look into the problem the OP seems to be having printing A6 cards from Acrobat.
I'll add another tip here: when printing thick cardstock with my Canon I increase the head to paper gap by checking 'Prevent paper abrasion' in the printer settings, to avoid smudges. It pops up a message each time I print to remind me this setting is on, but that's a small price to pay for no smudges and no wastage.

Thank you, I ended up getting a canon TS5350. It has different settings like photo paper, normal paper, greetings cards etc .. when I put it on anything other than normal paper the A5 option disappears .. I did print one card which is almost right after changing it from a A6 document to an A5 .. it's just not central on the card.webtrekker;142376 wrote:I print A5 cards on an A4 sheet with my Canon ix6850 . Re: Problem printing greeting card PDF
Can you add 'Custom' settings for paper size instead of selecting a prr-installed preset?
I can select "Custom, ' change size, then save as a new preset.
