On the suppliers website (listawood) it says travel mugs and water bottles 190c for 40 seconds.
Yet other sites say 170-180c for 180 seconds.

which is it going to be?
i think 40 seconds is a little too quick but they are aluminium so maybe 40 seconds is right??

I don’t know what to think.
does anyone else use travel mugs and water bottles?

Sometimes you just have to try something and be prepared to scrap it if it doesn't work. That's how we all learned.

To me, although I've never done aluminium water bottles, 40 secs at 190 C seems about right, given that I sublimate to aluminium sheets at the same temperature for 50 to 60 seconds.

Do you use any coating on the aluminium??

I will try the 40 seconds and see how it goes then.

It depends on the press, if its one that starts countdown straight away or you put mug/bite in, temp. rises and then it starts to cook.

My press has a warning on it “do not heat without mug inserted”
I insert mug clamp it and power on, then when it hits temp I start the timer.
at 0 seconds I power off and remove mug then remove paper and let cool.

So my thinking is as above but timer set to 40 seconds for water bottle and travel mug.

As I've said, I don't do water bottles, but I'd imagine they don't have the 'heatsink' issues that heavy ceramic mugs do, so I think your method of bringing your press up to temp then pressing for 40 secs should be ok.

When doing mugs though, I bring my press up to temp and insert the mug, which rapidly drops the temp by about 30 degrees, so I leave the mug in until it comes back up to 180, then start the timer.

Certainly, always insert a spare mug when heating up your press, or whenever it has to stand idle for a minute or two. Mine has the same warning.

When I said that I bring my press up to temperature and insert a mug, I should have said that I bring it up to temperature *with a spare mug inserted* then swap to the wrapped mug when it reaches the set temperature.
