Re: Cameo 3 Problem

Post by RichG »

Hi I'm having a few issues with my new Cameo 3......ive printed an image on plain copy paper with registration marks and it cuts perfectly. When I print the exact same image on transfer paper the cut is way off? I've checked and the registration marks line up exactly on both types of paper. Any suggestions please? Cheers

I used to have problems with the automatic optical system on my Cameo 2. It would work fine on some media types but not on others. I had particular problems with glossy or reflective media and also problems when the ambient lighting was too low.

I have none of these problems with my Silver Bullet cutter, which uses a 'red dot' laser for alignment of the registration marks.

One workaround I tried with the Cameo was to place plain label stickers on the media where the registration marks would be printed. Not ideal, but it worked.

Brilliant, thank you!! Just loaded the transfer paper with a torch shing on the sensor and hey presto it's cutting really accurately now! Cheers

No worries. Glad you found a solution. I had a clip-on fluorescent lamp that improved the optical sensing so I could cut any time of the day, however, sensor issues and poor roller traction eventually made me look for something more accurate, reliable and robust, hence the Silver Bullet.

I've just done some cutting experiments on sublimation printed 250micron (0.25mm) Mylar stencil material and the Bullet cuts it easily in a single cut. The reg marks were printed directly on the Mylar.

While I'm on, here's another cutting tip not many people know.

The Hinge Method.

(Not to be confused with the hinge method of vinyl installation).

If you use your cutter for anything other than just cutting vinyl you'd be advised to spend 5 minutes watching this video...

I've used this method at times and also added my own 'improvements' to it.
