Stickers/Decals best rioute to go down.

Hey guys, I am looking for some advice.

I am looking to get into making stickers/decals mainly for bands, so these would be [LEFT]indoor/outdoor/windows stickers etc.[/LEFT] and for other doing other projects as well.

I have a colour laser printer 'Brother HL-L3210CW', so not sure if there's anything I can get for that to just start off, as it seems if there is, that it could be very costly doing it that way.
I've seen the Roland BN-20 which seems to be perfect for what I want to do and has versatility to do other things, but has a hefty price tag for a newbie.

So i am wondering what advice/route you could give for me to go down, what i could look up and research with machines/vinyl/paper,
and even if the Roland Bn-20 would be a good goal to try achieve for what I want to do.

I'm also wanting to do sublimation, which is the main reason why I joined the forum, would the Roland BN-20 be suitable for sublimation printing etc?

Hi Cook_58,

It might be a good idea to take a look at the Roland BN-20 in person, this way you can see the process and results, you can then see if it's for you or not.
We have a showroom in Castle Donington just next to East Midlands airport and have lots of Print&cut machines, sublimation printers, laser printers, UV printing and more in our showroom.

For outdoor and window stickers you'd need an eco-solvent printer due to the effects of UV light from the sun. So yes, a BN-20 would be ideal for these. However, a BN-20 is of no use to you for sublimation printing, so you would need a different setup for that.

What size stickers are you intending to print? You mentioned window stickers in your first post so you may need a large format printer with eco-solvent inks and, if not a BN-20, then you'd need a separate countour cutter wide enough to handle the media and capable of doing print & cut from printed registration marks.

Stickers, in themselves, are cheap items, but you require some serious gear to do them properly.

the BN-20 is really slow and media limited due to narrow width.

Mimaki worth a look, when you compare specs to the bn20.

We use a latex printer but I would recommend.

If it something you're doing regularly then you can justify the outlay of an exo solvent, bear in mind cutting them out as well.

If you're not doing enough to justify or do occasional large runs just contract out.

Sizes would be a anything from about 30/40cmm up to 10cm+ for bands etc, window stickers would probably be a bit bigger. Not 100% sure as I'm just looking into it.
